If you are considering visiting East Timor during your vacations period, most probably you will fly into the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, locally called the Dili International Airport. This is located in the vicinity of Dili which is the capital and largest city of East Timor. Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport is the only international airport in East Timor. Dili has the only operational international airport, though there are airstrips in Baucau, Suai and Oecusse, they are used only for domestic flights.

Dili lies on the northern coast of Timor island, and to the eastern most part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Dili is also an important commercial centre and chief port for East Timor, and has approximately 150,000 inhabitants. The Universidade Nacional de Timor-Leste, East Timor's major higher education institution, is based in Dili. Most International and mainland flights use this airport for their flights and travelers heading on to another state may have to deplane and get on inter-state domestic flights to reach their final destination.

The island of Timor-Leste is part of the Malay Archipelago and also the largest easternmost of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Ombai Strait and Wetar Strait lie to the north of the mountainous island and to the south the Timor Sea separates the island from Australia, while to the west lies the Indonesian Province of East Nusa Tenggara. The highest point of East Timor is Mount Ramelau at 2,963 meters.
